There’s a lot of history that involves the Seahawks coaches, like how they’ve only been to three Super Bowl three times in their history, including this year’s Super Bowl. But let’s start back when they first became a team, back to 1976, back when the team was coached by Jake Patera.
Jack Patera is a legend in Seattle Seahawks eyes, Patera was born on August 1st 1933, but he sadly passed away on October 31st 2018. although he passed away he was still a great coach for the Seattle Seahawks, he was a great coach because he played seven seasons in the NFL, so he understood how to communicate with the players, teach them new things, and hopefully win the Super Bowl. When Patera coached for the Seahawks they made their first winning season in history, two years later Patera was named coach of the year in 1979.
Jack Patera retired in the 1982 season, then came Mike McCormack, McCormack played American football as well. McCormack was the Seahawks coach for only one single year, in 1982. McCormack was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 1984, before coaching the Seahawks, McCormack coached the Philadelphia Eagles during 1973-75 seasons, the Baltimore Colts 1980-81, and finally the Seahawks.
After Mike McCormack got traded, then came Chuck Knox. Knox was born on April 27 1932, and sadly passed on May 12 2018. Knox coached the Seahawks from 1983-91, and while Knox was coaching the Seahawks, Knox got the nickname “Ground Chuck.” Knox also led the Seahawks to their first major playoff wins, Knox also got the coach of the year in 1984. Knox was also inducted into the Ring Of Honor.
After Chuck Knox got traded the Seahawks got Tom Flores. Flores was recently inducted in The Pro Football Hall Of Fame on February 6, 2021. Before coaching for the Seahawks, Flores was an assistant coach for The Raiders for seven years. Flores was the Seahawks coach from 1992-94, and never won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks.
After Chuck Knox got moved to another team, the Seahawks got head coach Dennis Erickson. Erickson coached the Seahawks for four seasons, before coaching the Seahawks, Erickson coached at Miami university, and led Miami to the state championship two times while coaching them.
But after Dennis Erickson got traded to another team, the Seahawks got head coach Mike Holmgren. While coaching the Seahawks, Holmgren earned the Ring of Honor. Because Holmgren coached the Seahawks for so long, Mike McDonald still talks to Holmgren for help with plays.
When Dennis Erickson got traded to another team, the Seahawks got head coach Jim Mora. Mora was only the Seahawks coach for one year before being traded again to another team.
After Jim Mora was traded, the Seahawks got Pete Carroll, obviously if you know the Seahawks you know Pete Carroll. Carroll coached 13 years, from 2010-2023. Pete had a special connection with the Seahawks, and even though he left in 2023 the seahawks still like it when he comes and watch their game, Kenneth Walker III sated “When we see Pete in the stands It’s like your at your graduation and you super happy that your dad came, that’s what we feel when we see him at a game.”
Sadly after Pete Carroll got fired then retired, coach Mike McDonald was the replacement, even though McDonald has only coached our team for only two years, he’s already made a reputation for himself for leading us to the Super Bowl in the 2025-2026 season. McDonald is the youngest coach for the Seahawks yet! He’s only 38 years old turning 39 this year in June. Before coaching the Seahawks McDonald coached the Baltimore Ravens for 10 years, but now that he’s our Seahawks coach we hopefully will make it to more Super Bowls.
