The new semester is a chance for do overs for many students. Many have looked back at their grades and if they’re smart, have assessed their decisions and have made plans to improve on their systems from the last semester.
Bell Davis, A seventh grader has some plans for herself for the second semester, “I Think like I wanna say pushing myself more to do better even though I am a good student and have all A’s, I think that pushing myself and actually going deep and trying to explain things in more detail and write more clearly is one of my biggest goals.” She explained her goals clearly and how she wants to pursue those goals, spoken like a true scholar.
Emmy Epperson, an eighth grader here at TMMS had a different tactic she plans to use to attack this semester, “I do! I’m going to do school work after school more, like to work on homework and do extra things for practice.” Extra practice is always something teachers seem to recommend, speaking of TMMS this year has dedicated an entire period of three days of the week simply for studyhall. Many kids use this as a place for making up work, or just putting the extra time to good use and getting ahead of things.
Asher, a seventh grader’s plans involve, “ Try not to fool around as much as I usually do, I don’t fool around much but whenever I’m with Key friends like Evan, Israel I kind of fool off a bit, so I wanna try to keep it like a calm tone.” Friends are lovely, but can be proven to be major distractions when it comes to working. Being focused when you need to be is crucial for good grades.
Sawyer Bushell’s plans for action are to, “ I think honestly my goal is to stay on top of my assignments especially because my brain works better when I have music on, so a lot of my classes I’m not able to listen to music, so I normally save that work that I do to do when I get home so I can listen to music, but I want to kind of train my brain to not need music anymore.” Music is helpful for some, and not for others, but when you rely on something to that extent, it can become a hard habit to break.
The new semester is a time for brainstorming ideas and ways to adapt to the school year after some time in it. It’s a fresh start for grades, classes, and tactics, all for the greater benefit of your final scores.
