The debate has gone on for as long as school existed. Which core subject is the best, and why? Nowadays, schools have incredible options of interesting electives, or CTE classes. Students were asked what their favorites were, and these are some of their responses.
Abby Balbuena started off by saying, “It’s always so fun uncovering mysteries.” Her favorite subject is history. She said that part of the reason she likes the class, is because of her grades in the class. Although it isn’t the main reason history is her favorite.
My next person was eighth grader Emmy Epperson, whose favorite subject is math. “Problem solving is fun.” She says it is the reason she likes math. She’s also one to appreciate her grades, and how she does at the subject. “I feel like I excel at math and that makes me like it more.” Here’s another question to ponder. What percentage of the school, if someone asked every kid, would say their grades affected which class was their favorite? There’s many reasons for you to ask your friends what their favorite subject in school is. You may have something in common with someone you had no idea about.
Another interviewee Bless Zaldivar’s favorite school subject is Social Studies. Although she does enjoy having an A, it doesn’t change much about her opinion on the class. “Yeah but even if I didn’t have an A I would still enjoy it.” was her response.
Lexi Smith’s favorite subject is English. “I enjoy reading and writing.” It’s been her favorite subject for all of middle school. I asked her if her grades affected how much she liked it, and this was her response. “ I’m pretty sure I just like it. Because everything we do in there is like what I do in my free time.”
However, Nativity Dixon brought a whole new perspective to the table. She said that her favorite part of school was not a core class at all. It was lunch. She enjoys the fact she gets to eat during the day, and has a break from the heavy workload. Just goes to show the different opinions on classes, and school in general.
Mr Chris Myers was walking past me, while this article was being written. He then became enraged at the fact that no one said PE was their favorite. In his words, “ My question is what class do you get to go into where you play everyday, and yet nobody put it down?”
One thing is clear throughout all of the interviewee’s opinions. They all have a reason behind the way they feel about their favorite class. No matter what class it happens to be. It could be that you enjoy the topic. Or the projects are fun to do. You could also like the teacher. You also could simply do well, and like succeeding at it. You may not even have a reason behind why it’s your favorite. It may just be a feeling you have. Favorite school subjects are a topic of immense debate. They are backed up by personal opinions, and personal reasoning. One person could have an opinion about a certain class, and another could feel totally different. They could have the same experience, or the experiences could be different. This adds reasons for controversy. It all depends on who you ask.
