Nearing the end of semester, days away. One big question we ask ourselves is what does the end of the semester actually represent and mean? If you have ever asked yourself that question or you want to know what students and staff at TMMS think about the end of the semester, then this is the perfect article for you.
When asked, eighth grader Adela Matheson, what the end of the semester actually represents and means she said, “I don’t really think of it as an end. I think of it as a new beginning for people to kind of start their grades over… And I think they have them in general, just so people have the opportunity to kind of if they got off on the wrong foot for a semester, to kind of have another semester to be like, okay, I’m going to do this better, I’m going to get better grades… And just really have an opportunity to have a fresh start in the middle of the year, when a fresh start wouldn’t normally be provided.”
My next interview was with Sawyer Bushell, an 8th grader at TMMS said, “I think the end of the semester means you’re halfway done with the school year. You have to get all your half of the year work done and just get it done and turn it in and get your grades. And it’s just like you’re halfway there to the end of the year.”
Lora Hulet, a 7th grader leadership student said,”Halfway through the school year and a chance to get all A’s again.”
My next interviewee Bijou Boyer, a 7th grader at TMMS, had an interesting response, “For me I think it’s a fresh start. The first semester is for us to get a feel for things and start out and figure out how we can be better in the second semester. The second semester is to bring out the best version of your first semester self, and then more. And then you can get your grades up, do whatever. Just do better. And if you’re already doing great in first semester, then continue. ”
Payton Green, a 7th grader here at TMMS said, “All grades are final and you are done with either PE or health for that… And you kind of get a mid winter break around that time, so it’s pretty cool.”
When asked Ms. Feirro, a teacher at TMMS, what the end of the semester actually represents she said, “The end of the semester represents all the students hard work for the first term. And it means that they get another semester to continue learning and to continue growing and hopefully make better choices.”
Mr. Wes, a teacher at TMMS said, “Just the end of a grade period.”
Based on all of these different interviews, there really is no right definition of what the end of the semester for every one, the only true definition is the only one that is true to you.
